The awareness of the need for a permanent social change has proliferated rapidly, as the era of disposable culture has reached its end in 2010. Possibilities of wide-reaching systemic changes, purely through shifts in individual choices and actions, are limited. Our energy system, traffic and food production must urgently be reconsidered. There are ongoing societal changes in politics, economics and how we relate to the environment, including alterations in our relationships with other species and as well as ourselves.
In a truly sustainable society; nature conservation, community, care and leisure are valued higher than currently. The foundations of true sustainability is focused on a reduction of production and consumption. The social system of the future has to be based around moderation in addition to moral action.
Furthermore, we must strive to reduce violence and to preserve the diversity of life. In the Animal Justice Party’s future vision of Finland, we have replaced materialism with new economic, social and ecological goals. The impetus of economic growth has been dismantled in favour of sustainability, and replaced with increased wellbeing and sense of meaning. The Finland of the future has increased afforestation and reduced material consumption in order to combat the loss of biodiversity.
The only way to preserve the vitality of different species and future generations on earth is to protect and reinforce the diversity of life.
The Future Program has been compiled by the Animal Rights Party’s workgroup and is yet to be officially approved at a party meeting. The program is in line with our program of principles, social policy programs and municipal and parliamentary election programs. In this program, we to look to the future and the goal is set at year 2050.
We do not claim that this is what Finland will look like in 2050. The aim of this program is to strengthen the conditions for understanding the current scenario, as well as to present ideas for viable alternate development paths. It can be seen as a tool which can be used to assist in directing our operations in order to achieve the long-term goals we have set for ourselves. However, it will not be able to respond to all the global challenges we face in the coming decades.
